Review: Living The Law Of Attraction

November 17, 2008 by akemi

De-mystifying the Law of Attraction

I can hardly believe there are still people in this 21st century who don’t use the Law of Attraction. Is it that scary to have your dreams come true? Does it frighten you to realize you have the power to create? Are you so narrow-minded to accept what you don’t completely understand?

Living the Law of Attraction: Real Stories of People Manifesting Health, Wealth, and Happiness is an anthology of real life stories written by “ordinary” people who dared to embrace this approach to life and got super results. 62 of them. Seeing (results) is believing.

There is this guy who lost his investment business due to the dot com crash and manifested his dream business as spiritual teacher instead. Another guy received equal custody of his child when the male parent’s right was not well established, especially in unmarried relationship. Another raked in deals totaling $20 million in six months, big accomplishment even for a real estate guy.

As an immigrant myself, I felt for the guy who wanted to immigrate to the US. He was first conned by immigration “agency” and lost his life saving. From there, he used visualization and affirmations and in two years, legally moved his family from South Africa to America.

Then there are people who gained better health, like my friend Jenny Mannion, whose story is in this book. I also like stories like manifesting flowers or surprise presents . . . small things that nonetheless make us so happy.

You can learn to utilize the Law of Attraction

Reading these stories is a great way to learn how really you can utilize the Law of Attraction. Some uses vision board. Some pray. Some are so confident in their own power to manifest that they just start looking for what they want.

But in case you want more clearly defined instruction on how to utilize the Law of Attraction, the book suggests the following steps (the notes under each step is my own interpretation):

Step 1: Feel Good
You need to be feeling good if you want to attract good things. When you are in negativity, you are attracting the lack of what you want. So start your day with gratitude. Meditate. Exercise. These are solid ways to raise your mood – your vibration.

People who mistrust the Law of Attraction seem to have trouble right here. They prefer to stay in their cynical, smart-ass little hole and say something like, “Oh, the Law of Attraction, that’s for stupid people. Look, life is tough. Anyone smarter than Pollyanna knows this. And they insist of feeling good and having positive thoughts.”

Well, you don’t have to feel good if you don’t want to create happiness. That is totally your choice, and I respect that. If, however, you want to create some positive outcomes in your life, you do need to figure out how to feel good. And the good news is that this is a learnable skill.

Step 2: Set Forth the Intention
Don’t expect the Universe or your spirit guides to read your mind. Be clear and specific about your intention. And dare to dream big.

Step 3: Take Inspired Action
“You can’t spell attraction without action!”

This is another point of big misunderstanding. On one end of the spectrum, there are people who think their dreams just gets done by the genie with zero involvement of their own. On the other side of the spectrum, there are people who can’t tell the difference between inspired action and any action, and runs around like crazy doing, doing, and doing more.

Both are mistaken. You do need to take action because you are the one with the physical body and therefore can move move things around. The Universe or the spirit guides can bring opportunities but you need to go get it. This, however, doesn’t mean any action brings results. You need to take inspired actions.

How do you know what your inspired actions are? Well, when you are tuned in, you will know – it is inspiring.

Step 4: Release the “How”
How is not your job. The Universe takes care of it. Your job is, again, to take inspired actions.

Step 5: Be a”Yes” to Life
Have faith that it is working. Your life is working even when it may not look so to you. So stay positive.

Step 6: The Intention Manifests

Why the Law of Attraction works

As you can see, it takes faith to work the Law of Attraction. You need to set your intention regardless of your current situation. You need to take inspired actions – whether you can comprehend its meaning or not. And you need to stay in that positive mode. In short, you need to work from inside out, to live as a conscious being with intention, paying less attention to superficial ebbs and flows of outside world.

And that is the hint of why the Law of Attraction works. As Dr. Brian Weiss pointed out, we are souls incarnated in the physical body. Our souls incarnated with purpose. While each of us have our own unique purpose and lessons, there is also a big purpose that all souls live by, and that is to experience love, joy, and abundance in the substantial way in this physical world.

This is my current understanding: When we were the Source, the pure energy itself, we were love, joy and abundance. There was no lack, nothing that was not love, joy, abundance. This was wonderful, but we also wanted to try out something different. So we created this physical world, in which, by its very nature of being physical, things are distributed unevenly. I don’t just mean the social inequality – even in nature, there are unevenness.

There are mountains, oceans, farmlands, cities. Then there are barren lands. We might plant trees in the areas that have been long neglected, which is an act of love, and thus witness the abundance of this world. This brings joy.

The illusion of individuality in the physical world

While we are incarnated as physical beings, we have the illusion of separate individuals. This may cause us to fight, to exploit others, or to feel jealous, angry, and depressed. So there are opportunities we come back to love, joy and true abundance.

In this physical world, we can learn love, joy and abundance in a way that is not possible as the complete, perfect, pure energy we were. (And in fact, we still are the Source in essence.) To make sure this happens, the Divinity has designed a system. And this system is the Law of Attraction. We think of something we want, we desire and intend, and we attract it. We play out the rags to riches story. Or we can steer to negativity, which will bring negative things and events, letting us know something is wrong.

The question, then, is: Are you using the Law of Attraction to learn love, joy and abundance?

How the Law of Attraction is working for ME

A while ago, I decided to attract publicity. My Akashic Record Reading service is growing and, while more and more orders are certainly nice, I thought publicity would be even nicer at this young stage of my business development.

Last Friday, I found that the article I contributed to Pick The Brain went on to The Huffington Post. Pretty cool. I think this may be the beginning of my great publicity. (Just in case you may not be familiar – The Huffington Post is the world’s largest news blog site.)

Join us in the Intention Game

I will be starting the new Intention Game on my Gratitude Friday series (next edition is due Friday next week). Join us and see what happens!

Update: I’m renaming my Gratitude Friday to Online Gratitude Journal. It is biweekly now, so I think this fits better.

    Hi Akemi,
Thanks so much for reviewing the book and for the how-to guide. While I am grateful The Secret introduced the Law of Attraction to me — there are much more comprehensive guides on HOW to apply it to your own life. The guide in this book paints a clearer picture and books like The Master Key System by Charles Haanel spell it out in GREAT detail.

Congratulations on The Huffington Post! Awesome and well deserved!
I am so excited to “get” the law of attraction and my manifestations just KEEP on coming! :-) I look forward to us celebrating many of our future successes together!

    Lots of love, Jenny

Akemi, I had to smile when I read your questions at the beginning of your post. I imagine, rather perversely, that someone might answer them thus:

I’m terrified of using the Law of Attraction, afraid of having all my dreams come true. I mean, what if I become deliriously happy? What if I become overwhelmed with joy? And what if all of my mediocre friends leave me? What if I’m expected to make fundamental changes in my life? What if I become a completely different person? I can hardly believe that I’m so capable that I can create the life of my dreams, and it frightens me deeply that I have the power to rock this world to its foundations. I guess it’s true that I’m too narrow-minded to accept what I do not completely understand. I guess I’m still living in the 20th century.

Seriously, feeling good isn’t just important; it’s paramount. Fundamental. Even negativity can be flipped into positivity by way of transcendence of duality. By all means, be graceful, be gracious, be grateful. Be informed, be inspired. Life is sweet; the world is your playground. Be playful, be creative; release your best intentions into the computational matrix of the Universe and expect nothing less than your best to manifest. Allow the apathy, welcome the inertia, so that when they fall away, the way is clear for inspired action for the sake of attraction. And yes, release the expectation of how, but be sensitive to its lead. Say “yes” to life, but be mindful of the “no” without letting it trump the “yes”. And when all is said and done, let the intention manifest to become more than who you are.

    Playfully yours,
    Christopher

    Jenny,
You are so welcome — thank you for your autographed book. It was really a good read. There is so much power in real life success stories.

    Christopher,
You have described the inner fear of so many people so well, I think. Just add a bit more cynicism (or smartass factor) and you get the prototype of those LOA critics.
Now seriously, the application of LOA isn’t always easy. I just got an estimate of repair works for my rental house and damm, it shocked me!

Hi Akemi. First off, congratulations on your success. I will check out that article that went off to the Huffington Post. That is exciting!

I believe in the Law of Attraction, but have yet to see it manifest in my life. Up until today I’ve been following these steps. Today I’m stuck on #5. I’m losing faith. There is clearly something wrong with my formula.

With the unstable markets, the mutual funds that I’ve been using to support me are evaporating quickly. My latest statement has thrown me for a loop. Originally I had close to a 2 year margin to support me, but this has evaporated in the last 2 months. Now, if the pattern in the market continues, I will be looking at about 5 months of support. What can a person do in this case when their money “appears” to be under the influence of the masses? Time for a withdrawal perhaps.

I’d have to say that this is the most challenging period of my life. But, I’m NOT giving up!!!! I’m going to write all these steps down and rewrite my plan. Gotta get my hands on some magazines too, cause I think it’s time for a new vision board!

Akemi, first of all - congratulations on the Huffington Post! That’s wonderful news, and I’m very happy for you. It’s well deserved.

I’m someone who’s in a funny spot. I believe in the Law of Attraction but I struggle constantly with the idea that life is not meant to be easy, it’s meant to be difficult. I think that really messes up the positive intentions necessary for the LOA to work properly. I continue to think that as long as I recognize this weakness in my thinking and try to correct it, I’m going to move in the right direction, but it’s a struggle - so I always appreciate positive postings on this subject like yours!

    Davina,

I was thinking of supplementing my own comment because I think it is a bit misleading, and bam, you nailed it by your comment.

Saying “Yes” in the face of seemingly negative situation is tough. I know. Two things come to my mind about this. One is that, things can manifest in amazing ways that far surpass our imagination. For example, what if you finally do ******* to jump start your business because you are out of money and you just have to?

Two, sometimes, some souls choose the high road because they know they can make it. Like, like, we are. And doesn’t it suck for the time being to take the challenges!?

In my case, I KNOW my spirit guide brought this huge bill today right after I posted this article. (Our spirit guides are wonderful helpers, but they have interesting sense of humor…) “Let’s see how long Akemi takes to get back on the smiley face track” Thanks.

    Steve,
Good to see you around. The HuffPo has great taste for their selection of posts :)
Sounds like you are another soul who aspire to take the high road, who like big challenges. It’s like the bigger the challenge, the more joy we realize when we attract wonderful things. So hang tight.

    Hi Akemi,

Abraham are my favorite teachers on the Law of Attraction because their message to me seems the clearest and resonates so positively with me. I think Abraham would probably say that the process of manifestation that you have spelled out above could be simplified to Step One only - find ways to feel good and make feeling good your top priority. Other steps like taking inspired action would flow from this intention of doing what feels good.

I would also say that Step Two might come before step one because all the time we are putting out our desires into the Universe - every time we notice the contrast of our lives and decide what we want we emit it vibrationally, and it is the desire to create these many different intentions that leads us to study and learn the LOA.

I often find it difficult to set very specific intentions - since often what I want is not the specific physical thing I’m thinking of manifesting but an energetic quality that I think it will give me. Like I want more money to experience more freedom and variety in my life.

Lately, in my process of getting myself to a good feeling place, I’ve been really focusing on loving where I am right now. Of course it doesn’t mean I have to or want to stay here (since I’m also thrilled about where I’m headed) but I know that if I don’t accept and love where I am now in the process of getting to where I want to be, I can never get my vibration to match where I want to be. Plus it feels good to not be resisting the contrast and my present situation!

    Happy manifesting :)
    Adrianne

    Adrianne,
    I like Abraham, too.
I hope I didn’t mislead you — the steps are not mine, they are in the book. Only the comments under each steps are mine.

    Hi Akemi

Thank you for posting this indepth review. Good job. I am the guy you refer to: “As an immigrant myself, I felt for the guy who wanted to immigrate to the US. He was first conned by immigration “agency” and lost his life saving. From there, he used visualization and affirmations and in two years, legally moved his family from South Africa to America.”

The six steps listed in this blog are important and interdependent. I think that many people overlook Step #3 “You can’t spell attraction without action!”, and are not willing to put in the effort that allows the Law of Attraction work for them. You obviously put a lot of thought and effort into your blog, and I wish you well as you grow your business in service to your clients.

    Hi Wayne,
Thank you for your comment! I really like your story. And thank you for your kind words about my blog.
